#1. [PART 2] 20 landing page tips to help 99% of marketers

Last week, we gave you 10 best practices for landing page design that 99% of marketers AREN'T using. Let's finish up that list with the remaining 10:

#2: Increase marketing email open rate by 12%

Opening the email is the first step to getting subscribers to convert.

So here, Alex Garcia shares his top 5 tips for boosting open rates that increased his own newsletter's average open rate from 32% to 44%:

  1. Find an emoji match

Why? A consistent emoji in email subject lines reinforces brand recognition. Morning Brew does it with a "coffee emoji" ☕️

How to Implement: Choose an emoji that resonates with your brand. Mention it in your welcome email to familiarize subscribers. For instance, "All our emails will start with '🔍' so you always know it's us!"

  2. Beat the spam folder

Why? To ensure emails land in inboxes, not the dreaded spam/promotions folders.

How to Implement: Include a CTA in your welcome email encouraging subscribers to reply. A simple conversation helps email servers recognize the trustworthiness of the sender.

  3. GIF profile pic

Why? Visual recognition boosts open rates.

How to Implement: Switch your email profile picture to something recognizable (e.g., your Twitter profile pic). Boost visibility with a subtle animation to turn it into a GIF, drawing the reader's attention instantly.

  4. Triple-test subject lines

    Why? Higher open rates.

How to Implement: Before the full send, A/B/C test subject lines with a subset of your least engaged subscribers. Roll out the winning headline to everyone.

  5. Smart audience segmentation

Why? Protect sender reputation and enhance personalization.

How to Implement: Divide subscribers based on open rates (e.g., 75%-100%, 50%-74%, and so on). Or, segment by demographics, clicks, interests, customer status, or entry point. Craft tailored messages for each group.

#3. Get people talking about you (in a good way)

Here's the deal: Social ads—like those on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook—thrive on social proof.

An ad with tons of likes and comments doesn't just look good; it performs better. But how do you fast-track genuine engagement, especially when excluding current customers from your targeting? Here comes the growth hack:

1. Time it right with post-purchase emails

Send an automated email after purchase, tailored to the excitement curve of your product. Got a product with immediate impact, like a phone case? Ping them in a week. For something with longer onboarding, like software, wait for that 'magic moment' when they truly see its value.

2. Get them talking with simple choices

In the email, pose a simple question: "Loving your purchase?" Offer two responses: "yes" or "no".

For the YES clickers: Direct them to your ad with a gentle nudge to drop a like and comment. Sweeten the deal with a coupon or some store credit. Need that ad's URL on Facebook? It's easy to grab:

For the NO clickers: Channel this into constructive feedback. A brief survey can provide valuable insights into product improvements.
