šŸš€ This Week's Hacks: Giveaways still work 🫓

The best email of your week

Hey, Marketers! BFCM is coming up. But you probably don’t need us to remind you. Kick your marketing performance into high gear ahead of the holidays (and the Thanksgiving food coma) with this week’s growth hacks:

What’s in the news…

Meta introduced A/B testing for Reels, Google is testing ads in organic search results, TikTok users are starting to spend more in-app.

Growth Hacks

#1. Give away to get brand loyalty

Creating a lasting impression can keep your brand top of mind and encourage long-term loyalty. A great way to do this: Freebies.

The key to an effective freebie strategy in 3 steps:

1) Timely Gifts: Identify key decision-making moments in your customer's journey, then offer a valuable freebie. Like Gillette, sending free shaving kits to guys turning 18, right when they're about to start shaving for life.

2) SMS Raffles: Include a raffle ticket with every order, and announce winners via a weekly SMS.

3) Extravagant Tokens (for High CLTV Products): If you have a high customer life-time value (CLTV), don't shy away from going overboard. Like Airtable gifting branded AirPods as a branded item that's both memorable and conversation-starting.

#2: Use emotion and metaphor for 24% better brand recall

Recent findings from a study cited by Ariyh underscore the effectiveness of metaphorical and emotional ads in enhancing brand recall. After a week of ad exposure, individuals were 24% more likely to recognize snippets from metaphorical or emotional ads compared to functional ads.

What's the key to effective metaphorical and emotional ads?

Metaphorical: Draw relevant comparisons between products and distinct scenarios. Like Bose headphones: ā€œLeave the noise behindā€ shown with an image of a screaming child.

Emotional: Evoke emotions unrelated to product features. Like Wells Fargo: ā€œBecause your family mattersā€ accompanied by an image of a parent and child.

#3. Rewards will always have power

Harness the persuasive power of incentives to bolster customer loyalty, mitigate churn, and forge win-win relationships.

Here’s a strategic approach to leverage incentives efficiently and effectively:

Loyalty Programs: Design a digital loyalty program offering instant rewards to enhance customer lifetime value and encourage repeat purchases.

Churn Busters: Develop a 'Churn Buster' strategy employing rewards and penalties to deter churn.

Example: Losing access to a community or ecosystem, like the sad souls who switch from iOS to Android and lose the blue text bubbles 😢

Win-Win Relationships: Identify mutual incentives that foster long-term relationships with customers.

Balance is key. Over-relying on rewards may lead to an expectation-driven relationship with customers. Aim for a blend of value delivery, rewards, and constructive penalties to maintain a healthy customer relationship and sustainable growth.
